Enterprise vendors offering big Black Friday discounts

Servers, books, virtualisation software, training and PCs at unusually attractive prices

Black Friday and the Cyber Monday that follows have become big discount shopping days for consumers, but enterprise vendors are getting in on the act too with hefty discounts on training and some kit.

Cisco Press is running a Buy 2+, Save 55% or Buy 1, Save 35% sale until November 26th, so the CCNP Routing and Switching v2.0 Complete Video Course Library will cost US$404.99 instead of the usual $899.99, if you buy another Cisco product.

VMware's discounting the vSphere Enterprise to Enterprise Plus Upgrade by 50 per cent on its store. The company has also cut the price of its Fusion and Workstation desktop hypervisors by between 30 and 50 per cent, or by 55 per cent if you migrate to Fusion from Parallels.

Dell's discounting desktop and portable PCs, but we're more interested in the sale on servers because you could score a PowerEdge R230 Rack Server for 49 per cent less than usual or tower servers at 60 points below the usual price. What's your excuse for putting off that home lab build now?

Lenovo's sliced about $100 from its ThinkCentre M700 Tiny, a very small form factor desktop, and also has deals on some business-grade ThinkPads.

Microsoft press has taken the axe to enterprise-centric books here and like plenty of consumer tech outfits is selling its own hardware cheap.

Your mileage may vary pursuing these deals, as some vendors restrict their offers to shoppers in the USA. Others geo-target pages and therefore may obscure discounts for folks outside the USA. Shipping can also be an issue, but thankfully not for virtual goods like video training courses that are often sold as downloads.
