Judge allows Apple's faceless Irish head to settle for €45k - report

'6-month jail sentence ... converted into payment' as part of tax probe

A payment from the head of Apple's besieged Irish company was accepted by an Italian judge to settle a case against him or her as part of a tax probe into the firm, according to a report.

Apple Sales International is being investigated in the country as part of allegations that it failed to pay €879m in corporate taxes.

This morning, Reuters reported that the infamously unnamed head of Apple's Irish arm had "converted" a six-month jail sentence into a €45,000 payment in a judicially approved settlement agreement.

According to Reuters, "under Italian law, a settlement agreement does not imply an admission of guilt". Following his or her settlement - a completely legal exchange - sources have claimed the prosecutors are now seeking to drop the case against the Apple Italia managers too.

It ain't the first time that the fruity folk have emptied their pockets for the Italians. Right at the end of last year the company handed over €318m to fend off Italy's taxmen. ®
