Oh joy. You can now buy a gold plated quadcopter drone

And fly it at more than 16 times the legally permitted height, we're told

Rich fools who like remote control toys can now splurge £20,000 buying a gold-plated DJI Phantom quadcopter, we are breathlessly told.

Courtesy of Drones Direct, the remote-controlled drone is covered in 24 carat gold plate.

In exchange for your 20 large you get the drone itself – branded theDJI Phantom 4 Gold Edition – the remote controller, a battery, a mobile phone holder, two complete sets of propellers, a propeller storage bag, a charger, gimbal clamp, 16GB SD card and a carrying case.

The gold-plated drone is also capable of being flown at heights of up to 2,000m (6,500ft), which is an interesting selling point given that for private drone operators, the maximum legally permitted altitude is 400ft.

“This no expense spared gadget is definitely not style over substance – owners can take stunning 4K high definition photographs and videos using the integrated camera, which is mounted on an electronic gimbal to ensure ultra-smooth, sweeping shots are recorded in seamless high quality, making even the amateur operator a seasoned pro,” grates the Drones Direct press release.

The DJI Phantom 4 includes sense and avoid technology and has the ability to intelligently detect potential hazards whilst in the air, tracking moving objects automatically using ActiveTrack. Pilots can also bring the bullion home at the push of a button with the Phantom 4’s Smart Return Home function.

If you want to buy one of these ridiculously overpriced things, feel free to Google Drones Direct. Just don't go flying it near airliners.
