Lenovo: Entry-level 1U pitch

By Chris Mellor, 29 Sep 2016

Lenovo’s ThinkServer RS160 (PDF) is an entry-level 1U rackmount server optimised for cost.

This thin box has a single CPU socket, for fitting Intel Pentium to Intel Xeon E3-1200 v5 processors, the latter with 4-cores, up to 3.7 GHz core speeds and up to 8MB cache. The RS160 supports up to 64GB of DDR4 DRAM and 16TB of internal storage (2 x 3.5-inch or 4 x 2.5-inch bays) which includes up to 1.72TB of flash (4 x 480GB SATA SSDs). A PCIe gen 3 controller is integrated into the E3-1200. There is also a PCIe gen 3 expansion slot and built-in 1 GbitE NICs. Lenovo wants us to understand it has energy efficiency and serviceability features, eg, 80 PLUS Gold certified power supplies and sliding rails, not typically found in the single-socket value server area. ®
