Free concert! Against TPP?

Internet advocacy group Fight for the Future will host a series of music concerts in Denver, San Diego, Seattle and Portland – to protest the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade agreement.

The Rock Against the TPP idea has been joined by the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) and a number of musicians, including guitarist Tom Morello, in an effort to drive signatures on a petition asking Congress to vote against the agreement, which they fear will give corporations too much power (debatable).

Fight for the Future made a name for itself by opposing the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and PROTECT IP Act (PIPA) legislation back in 2012. It also supported net neutrality efforts: both issues that drew significant support from online users.

Those campaigns were carried out through online grassroots advocacy: something that has so far been less successful when it comes to the TPP, which is arguably more intangible than local legislation. As such, it's unclear whether free music concerts will develop greater support or just end up being a nice day out for people. ®
