$15m renames Harvard center

A donation of $15m from corporate lawyer Michael Klein has led to the renaming of Harvard University's dedicated internet center. The Berkman Center for Internet & Society will henceforth be known as the Berkman Klein Center.

"This gift helps ensure that Harvard Law School will remain at the forefront of problem solving as we confront and take advantage of the global and digital future," said the dean of the law school, Martha Minow.

Seventy-four-year-old Klein made a small fortune as a partner at Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr (now WilmerHale) but he puts a big part of his success down to the fact he received a fellowship to attend the elite university.

In 2004, he made a similar gift to endow a law professorship, and on giving up corporate life he also started and is CEO of the Sunlight Foundation which is dedicated to bringing greater transparency to the US Congress. ®
