NSA newsletters published

An archive of internal newsletters from US spying agency, the National Security Agency (NSA), have been published online.

The copies of SIDtoday - produced by the NSA's Signals Intelligence Directorate and placed on the organization's intranet - date back to 2003 and were part of the huge trove of documents supplied to journalists by former NSA worker Edward Snowden. They are being published in batches by online publication The Intercept.

The first batch, published Monday, comprises 166 articles and covering the dates March 31, 2003 to June 30, 2003. The articles covers issues such as the NSA's role in interrogations and the Iraq War, and review of how people use the internet and mobile phones.

Most of the material within the newsletter is unclassified although there are occasional information that is designated secret. It is also a little dense - largely technical and jargon-laden. The documents have also been redacted to remove the names and contact details of covert agents and any government employees who are not already high-profile. ®
