SOS: No AT&T SMS in US

AT&T appears to be experiencing a widespread outage for SMS messaging in the US midwest.

Reg readers report being unable to send or receive texts in the region, while folks on social networks report similar problems. Monitoring site DownDetector is showing a knackered service stretching from Pennsylvania to the Great Lakes region. We're even seeing word that some people's messages are being routed to strangers' numbers.

AT&T is apparently on the case. ®
