Chipzilla to add new production line in Vietnam

Intel has announced that it's to expand its CPU manufacturing plant in Vietnam.

Chipzilla plans to spin up a second production line in the Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) fab, according to remarks made by the local subsidiary's CEO Sherry Boger to a seminar on Monday.

According to Tuoi Tre News, the Boger said the new production line will begin operations this month.

The company began Haswell production in July on the existing HCMC production line. The 1,000-strong Vietnamese subsidiary also makes system-on-a-chip products for Intel, and its expansion will result in the facility delivering “80 per cent” of the world's supply of Haswells by July 2015.*

The Vietnamese chip bakery fired up in 2010, and is located in the Saigon High-Tech Park.

Boger said to Tuoi Tre News he hoped to skill up other Vietnamese companies to support the factory, because currently Chipzilla needs to call on overseas support for operations like machinery repair. ®
