Aargh! My EYEBALLS are MELLLTING! Curse this DEVIL LAPTOP

I am a rat, of course, and have been staring at it close up for days

According to a recent study, lap-warming, ball-cooking laptops pose yet another threat to users, and this time it crosses the gender divide: "Computer Vision Syndrome".

"On top of this, recent in-vitro (or experimental) studies conducted by UCM and Dr Celia Sánchez-Ramos, an important expert on ocular phototoxicity, have shown that part of the LED light emitted by electronic device screens can damage retinal cells."

Or so says Reticare, a company that, guess what, makes a shield which will "protect" you from this damage.

But it seems those experiments were conducted solely on rodents and under conditions the average computer user does not experience.

Bobby Qureshi, a London Eye Hospital consultant opthamologist, told Metro "The Madrid study tested someone looking at the equivalent of a 100watt light bulb, at a distance of 12 inches for 12 hours a day... And this isn’t something a normal person would be doing."

The American Optometric Association, which coined the term, might also take issue with the use of the CVS – which it relates to eye strain and posture of computer users in front of the screen.

There are known concerns about blue light causing macular degeneration, however, although medical evidence for this is at best inconclusive.

Perhaps the three blind mice of folklore have been fiddling with their mobes too much. ®
