May the fourths be with you: Muso John Williams returns to Star Wars

Top movie muso John Williams will pen the latest Star Wars flick's music, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy has announced.

The Oscar-winning composer, who put together the score for all six of the previous films in the saga, said he was happy to be coming back for the latest instalment.

"I've loved doing the Star Wars films, with all the fanfares and flourish. The galaxy far, far away - I actually feel like I'm still in it, that I never really left it, having worked on all of the six films! I'm just happy to be continuing to be part of the whole fun of doing it," he said.

Williams said he hadn't seen the script yet and had no details of the story, but said he couldn't imagine a movie that wouldn't call on him to echo at least some of the music from the previous episodes.

Fans, of course, would be keen to hear some of the instantly recognisable pieces, such as the Main Title piece (fourths and all) from the very first film made and Darth Vader's ominous Imperial March music.

Williams has been composing for Hollywood movies for 60 years and has won five Academy Awards for his music. His scores have featured some of the most well-known sounds and tunes in the business, including the famous two-note shark theme in Jaws and the music for the Indiana Jones series.

Kennedy announced Williams' return at the Star Wars Celebration Europe fan festival, adding to the list of folks working on the new film without giving away anything about the storyline.

The movie now has a producer, director, screenwriter and composer, but no actors or plot possibilities have been confirmed yet. ®
