Put up your ... err ... hand for free vasectomy streamed online

If you're willing to have a film Director say “Cut!”, the op will be free

Mark this one down in your diaries, Reg readers: October 18th is the first World Vasectomy Day, and if you're game you'll be able to get the snip for free by agreeing to have the operation streamed online.

The host for this spectacle will be the Royal Institution of Australia (RiAus), which thinks the day and its message of population control is a jolly good idea. To sharpen the message, the Adelaide event will include an appearance by renowned vasectomist Dr Doug Stein, who has reportedly performed the snip more than 30,000 times.

As Stein works, he and various experts including Professor Paul Ehrlich, author of a tome titled The Population Bomb, will debate population issues and vasectomies' role in keeping the human population of planet Earth at sustainable levels.

The whole thing will be streamed online, and those involved will soon ask for volunteers willing to undergo the procedure and have it streamed live to the world. If you put your ... err .. hand up for the operation, you won't spend a penny for the procedure.

“This event will take vasectomy out of the medical suite and into the homes of people who may never have considered vasectomy,” RiAus director Paul Willis said in a canned statement. “It will be an important way of encouraging people to think about how their ecological footprint leaves its mark on the planet.”

Organisers told The Reg that volunteers can get themselves to the head of the queue for a free snip by registering for updates here. ®
