Amazon UK to offer collection service at corner shops

'Yeah, I'll 'ave Amazon gear, pint o' milk an' a Mars bar'

Amazon is a to launch a service that lets UK customers pick up their purchases from one of 4,700 shops across Britain.

The etailer has been secretly trialling pick-ups through shops that already work with PayPoint using its existing CollectPlus parcel service.

CollectPlus is already available in selected local corner shops, convenience stores and even garages, giving Amazon buyers the chance to grab their purchases at from places open early to late and often seven days a week.

Delivery is frequently a massive pain in the butt for most internet shoppers, since anyone who has a job can't fit into the narrow-minded, we-only-deliver-during-office-hours post and courier services' mentality.

"By opting for a CollectPlus ‘pick up location’ at checkout, Amazon.co.uk customers can choose to collect their items from one of our thousands of shops nationwide, at a time that suits them best," Mark Lewis, chief exec of CollectPlus, said in an emailed statement.

“CollectPlus is already integrated into Amazon.co.uk Marketplace, so sellers can choose us as their delivery service. The extension of our service means that more people will be able to use CollectPlus, providing further choice and convenience for their deliveries.”

CollectPlus already accepted returns from Amazon customers and it has been trying out deliveries over the summer at certain locations. ®
