Delicious, Yahoo! Buzz, MyBlogLog, AltaVista all face axe

Leaky! Yahoo! lightens! ship!

Yahoo! is reportedly in the process of retiring eight products, following the company's announcement earlier this week that it planned to axe 600 jobs worldwide.

Products on the hit list include Delicious, Yahoo! Buzz, MyBlogLog and AltaVista.

However, so far the struggling web portal has only officially confirmed that Yahoo! Buzz will be killed.

"Part of our organisational streamlining involves cutting our investment in underperforming or off-strategy products to put better focus on our core strengths and fund new innovation in the next year and beyond," said the company in a statement to All Things Digital yesterday.

"We continuously evaluate and prioritise our portfolio of products and services, and do plan to shut down some products in the coming months such as Yahoo! Buzz, our Traffic APIs, and others. We will communicate specific plans when appropriate."

But despite a leaked screenshot of a web cast about those plans, apparently undersigned by Yahoo!'s chief product officer Blake Irving, the company is yet to confirm that Delicious, AltaVista and others are indeed up for the chop.

Eric Marcoullier, who is the founder of MyBlogLog – which Yahoo! bought in 2007 – posted the screenshot on Twitter yesterday.

The leak prompted Irving to ask: "Really dude? Can't wait to find out how you got the web cast. Whoever it is, gone!" ®
