Adobe urges 'caution' for 64-bit Flash player beta

Adobe is offering a beta version of its Flash player which includes support for 64-bit chips and Internet Explorer 9.

The beta, called Square, is not stable, the company warns in a blog post, and punters are urged to "use caution" in production environments.

The app is available for Macs, Windows and Linux machines.

While Adobe is being eminently cross platform here, it adds that "It takes advantage of hardware accelerated graphics in Internet Explorer 9 Beta, utilizing hardware rendering surfaces to improve graphics performance and enable seamless composition."

Microsoft unveiled its latest (beta) Internet Explorer just yesterday.

In a blog posting late yesterday, Adobe's Paul Betlam, claimed that, "In our internal testing, we’ve seen significant improvements in Flash Player graphics performance – exceeding 35 per cent in Internet Explorer 9 Beta compared to Flash Player running in previous versions of IE."

The page warns anyone downloading and using Square that they will need to check back for updates - the update notifications will not work.
