Virgin Media network goes titsup in Brum

Power outage blamed

Virgin Media customers across the west Midlands are this morning cut off from broadband, cable phone and digital TV.

Reg readers in Birmingham, Solihull and Kidderminster are reporting their connections went down at about 5.40am.

A update on Virgin Media's status page confirms engineers are investigating the problems.

A Virgin Media spokesman said the ongoing outage was caused by a power cut. He said power has now been restored and the firm expects its network in the area to return soon. The cause of the power cut isn't yet known.

"Some customers in Birmingham are currently without their Virgin Media services due to a commercial power outage. We are currently investigating, with engineers on site, working on a remedy as a high priority. We aim to restore service as soon as possible," he said.

The full network outage this morning follows more limited problems in the region yesterday, when cable subscribers in Wolverhampton lost an evening's TV.

The west Midlands is covered by the part of Virgin Media's network formerly run by Telewest. ®
