NZ council to scrub Muff Road
Souvenir hunters target tasty signage
Weary residents of Muff Road in Orari, New Zealand, have requested a name change after repeated thefts of its road signs by muff-hungry souvenir hunters.
According to the Timaru Herald, Muff Road has rarely enjoyed secure signage, and operatives apparently gave up replacing the signs after the last set went AWOL around 18 months ago.
Cue a meeting today of Timaru District Council's resource planning and regulation committee, which will consider changing the name to Ohapi Road - both in recognition of its old moniker and the fact that the Muff family no longer lives on the thoroughfare.
Resident Roger Payne, who is leading the campaign, said: "Because of the on-going problem with signage, I would like to see the original geographic name restored so the road could have safe signage." ®
