Iomega intros external drive for bondage buffs
Two more stylish drives
If you’ve got a bucket-load of PC files that could land you in hot water in the wrong hands, then Iomega has the cure: a portable HDD able to password-protect itself.
Iomega's secure eGo Encrypt HDD
When the eGo Encrypt HDD’s connected to your PC over USB 2.0, it’ll let you freely access its documents. But the second someone yanks it from your PC in an attempt to plug it into their machine and read your data, Encrypt will prompt the spy for a password before letting them access the data.
The 350GB drive is also protected against drops of just over two metres and comes with a rubbery cover that’s supposed to prevent it from slipping out of your hands.
Senseis of martial arts will love the eGo BlackBelt
Iomega’s also designed a stylish “black-on-black” drive called the BlackBelt. Apparently the colour scheme renders it perfect for secret agents or those who favour the dark of the night. It certainly has that 'dungeon' quality about it...
It has a smaller, 250GB capacity than the Encrypt, but doesn’t include the same password protection feature. Other than that, BlackBelt’s feature set includes the same drop protection and a USB 2.0 connection.
Both 2.5in drives are compatible with machines running Windows Vista/XP and Mac OS X 10.1 or above. They also come with a copy of EMC Retrospect Express HD for backing up your precious files.
Iomega’s eGo Encrypt drive will be available later this month for £110 ($163/€129), but the BlackBelt drive is available now for £80 ($120/€94).
