Peruvian football team has really bad day

Bus, 600ft ravine...

By Lester Haines, 15 Oct 2008

A Peruvian second-division football team has suffered what must rate as one of the worst days in the history of the sport, MSN reports.

Members of the San Cayetano football club from the northern city of Celendin were on their way home from a fixture when highway robbers "forced the bus driver out of his seat at gunpoint". The brakes "came loose", as the Andina state news agency puts it, and the vehicle plunged 600ft down a ravine, killing eight people and injuring 22.

Three San Cayetano players and two of the club's owners died in the tragedy. The MSN report concludes: "The team was returning from a game it lost 10-0." ®
