CSC, Fujitsu and IBM on passport shortlist

The Identity and Passport Service has announced shortlists for two stages of the National Identity Scheme procurement programme.

It has said that CSC, Fujitsu and IBM will be considered as suppliers for the Application and Enrolment Programme for the replace of passport application contracts and development of new capabilities.

For the National Identity Service programme, for replacing existing biometric storage and matching capacity, it has shortlisted IBM and Thales.

The companies are members of the Strategic Supplier Group framework, which is being used as a basis for mini-competitions of different stages of the procurement.

A UK Borders Agency programme has also initiated a procurement exercise using the framework for a partner to support development of an immigration casework system. This programme has shortlisted EDS, Fujitsu and IBM.

A separate procurement was launched in June to replace existing arrangements for the design and production of passports. As part of the process 3M, SP&SL, De La Rue, Gemalto and Thales have been shortlisted to engage with IPS in detailed discussions.

Following detailed negotiations with bidders, tenders will be submitted for the contracts, which will be be awarded in 2009.
