Sharp updates DVR with Freeview Playback 'series link'

Sharp has upgraded its Freeview DVR to incorporate support for Freeview Playback, the digital TV network's DVR logo and associated system for recording an entire series of programmes.

The TU-R10HA was launched last June, but now it's known as the TU-R160HA. The unit has a 160GB hard drive to hold up to 80 hours' of recorded telly, Sharp said, and a pair of tuners to allow you to watch one programme while recording another.

At this stage, we're awaiting clarification from Sharp whether the Freeview Playback "series link" technology will be added to the TU-R10HA by way of an over-the-air update, or whether the feature will only be made available on the new box.

The set-top box has a pair of Scart connectors, one with RGB support, and there's a composite-video port and RCA stereo audio jacks too.

The TU-R10HA provides all the usual DVR features: pausing and rewinding through live broadcasts, chase playback - starting watching after you've begun recording - and picture-in-picture display.

Available now, the new Sharp box costs £160.
