Come celebrate the web...

By pishing on a dying disabled woman

Two items arrived in our inbox today.

In one, we're invited to tug our forelocks in awe at the World Wide Web this weekend. Scheduled for Saturday, OneWebDay is "a global day to celebrate online life" - and why not?

We're invited to film our ritualistic songs of praise to network technology, which has permitted us to express ourselves in lots of new ways.

"Online, we're encouraging people to make their own short videos and post them on blip.tv or youtube or dotsub.com," urge the organisers.

So get busy with your cameraphones, netizens.

The second item to arrive shows how people already have.

Teesside Crown Court this week heard the story of a disabled woman in Hartlepool. She had fallen ill and comatose in a doorway near her home, and two local youths attempted to revive her, initially by kicking her feet and pouring cold water over her.

Then one of the pair had a bright idea.

"This is YouTube material!" shouted Anthony Anderson, 27, who had been smoking spliff and drinking with a friend. Using a cameraphone, the pair proceeded to spray the woman with shaving foam and then urinated on her. The woman was later declared dead at the scene, having suffered a pancreatic failure.

Thanks to the miracle of user-generated content - everyone's a star on the web. ®
