EU disgorges internet stats

The European Union has spewed out some stats on net usage - making even the hardest Sudoku seem like a piece of cake.

To put it simply, the Nordic countries of Sweden, Denmark and Finland had the highest density of net use for both residential and business punters.

Propping up the bottom of the net table is Greece followed by Hungary, Lithuania, Poland and Portugal. The UK, for what it's worth, is somewhere in the top half of the table.

Overall, those clever number crunchers at the EU managed to figure out that half of people aged 16 to 74 used the internet during the first three months of 2004 [Yes, we know that's a year ago but these things take time - ed].

They also told us that more men used the internet than women, and more young people than old people like to go online.

And the fascinating stuff doesn't stop there. Did you know that of the 15 per cent of households in the UK that have broadband, 22 per cent of the homes have kids while 13 per cent had no youngsters? Brilliant. ®
