Lucent fires 'corrupt' gang of four
Ongoing investigation into China execs
Lucent has fired four execs at its China operation amid allegations of corruption.
The telecoms kit outfit has been carrying out an investigation into overseas business practices after bribery allegations surfaced last year in Saudi Arabia.
Lucent has been investigating its overseas operations in 23 countries - including Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, the Philippines and Russia.
As a result, four top execs in China have been given the boot as part of Lucent's ongoing investigation into "internal control deficiencies in foreign operations involving the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA)".
Specific details were not disclosed.
In a filing with the Security and Exchange Commission (SEC) yesterday Lucent said that "four people in China involved in the incidents are being separated from the company".
The company did not disclose names but said it involved the "president; the chief operating officer; a marketing executive; and a finance manager".
The company's China operations will now report to Robert Warstler, President of Global Sales until a new president is named. ®
