Today's MS Licensing 6.0 deadline to loom again tomorrow

Please, no more last chances...

OK, so you didn't give in and buy Microsoft Software Assurance or Upgrade Advantage in good time, and today you haven't given in to the blandishments of the resellers desperate to get you to save yourself "35-60% in future upgrades" by putting your hand in your pocket. So at midnight, you'll be safe, because the Microsoft Licensing 6.0 scheme will have kicked in, and that's that - these maniacs are going to stop calling you, at least while they go on holiday to spend their vast accrued commission.

You think. Read and weep: "Important Notification from Microsoft/SYNNEX: SYNNEX has Microsoft’s permission to extend the Upgrade Advantage/Software Assurance enrollment one more day. As your distributor of choice, we will be accepting your customer orders until the close of business, August 1, 2002."

We can't find any notification of this great last ditch offer on synnex.com, but it may be in the reseller section, and the email we've been forwarded looks plausible enough. So, US resellers, "This is your last chance to take advantage of this upgrade program. Act now so that you don’t lose out on this moneymaking opportunity!!! For further assistance, call your SYNNEX sales representative at once."

And we have an awful feeling there may be more of these out in the wild. Is no-one safe? Will these 'last chances' never stop coming? When everybody in the world has finally given in and taken out Software Assurance or Upgrade Advantage, will Microsoft send out a press release headed "Only Kidding" and spike Licensing 6.0? Come out with your hands up, people - there's no escape. ®
