NGUK apologises for EuroGamer slur
PR to be proud of
British gaming ISP, NetgamesUK Ltd, has issued a full retraction after making potentially libellous statements in a press release against an IT news site.
In a PR bungle that makes the Countess of Wessex look like a media pro, NGUK issued a press release in which MD, Andy Jones, incorrectly accused EuroGamer of writing an inaccurate story about the future of the games ISP.
Mr Jones also questioned the professionalism of an EuroGamer journalist.
EuroGamer was so incensed about the false allegations it sought - and won - a retraction.
In a short statement today NGUK said it would like "to apologise for comments made in a press release" adding that "EuroGamer had only reported on the closure of [its] 0800 flat rate dial-up service."
"NetgamesUK Ltd apologises for any distress caused," it said.
EuroGamer said: "EuroGamer Network is disappointed at the press release issued by NetgamesUK. EuroGamer's story made no statement about NetgamesUK Ltd closing it's business, instead correctly reporting on the closure of the flatrate 0800 dialup service instead."
