Miss Brittany dethroned for posting 'nude' Facebook pics

Brief reign for Eugénie Journée

The reign of this year's Miss Brittany, Eugénie Journée, was only marginally longer than that of Prince Louis-Antoine, Duke of Angoulême, after the 23-year-old was stripped of her title as a result of posting rule-busting "nude" photos of herself on Facebook.

Ms Journée, a law student at the University of Rennes, was crowned on Saturday at a ceremony in Saint-Pol-de-Léon. On Monday, the Miss France organisation issued her with marching orders as a result of what it considered social media overexposure.

According to Metronews, Miss France director Sylvie Tellier explained: "It's not a question of whether these pictures are shocking or artistic. It's the act of stripping for the camera that's banned. The girls should not pose nude or in an ambiguous way. We can't judge on a case-by-case basis."

By Tuesday, Journée had removed the offending images from Facebook, but not before the French twitterverse had got hold of them, the better to express its outrage at the injustice:

The title of Miss Brittany 2015 has been transferred to runner-up Léa Bizeul, 19, who'll travel to Tahiti in November to contest the Miss France title with 30 other regional winners.®
