EE Harrier Mini grounded by errant Wi-Fi calling upgrade

Now flies in exactly the same way as bricks don't

An official upgrade to EE Harrier Mini mobes is bricking them. The upgrade, which was pushed out to customers last week, requires a back-to-base fix.

Comments on the EE community forum indicate that the devices will not get past the power-on screen after they have been upgraded.

Some people say that they have been given a direct replacement in-store, others that a replacement will take two weeks. We asked EE what the policy was on this, but the company was unable to give us an answer.

All the company was prepared to say was: “We are aware a handful of customers with Harrier devices have been affected by a software update and we are speaking to those customers directly to resolve any issues they have.”

Website Onlinesupport.co.uk claims that the upgrade was supposed to enable Wi-Fi calling and shows the hard-reset option, but even this won’t fix the problem and would mean you’d lose all your data.

Users have taken to Twitter to try to elicit a better response than “we know, we are working on it”.

A posting on the community forum which gives the most information says:

We have been given an update on this issue.

Any one [sic] effected [sic] with the update, will need to go into an EE store or call 150 if you have insurance we will replace the phone.

The phone will need to be sent off for repair, the store can loan you a phone until this is repaired. Very sorry for the inconvenience caused.

So there you go. Now you know what to do if you are affected. ®
