Oracle boat picks up ex-HP hardware man Donatelli

Could be joining former colleague Mark Hurd on board

HP exec David Donatelli has followed Mark Hurd to Oracle, and taken up an exec veep position related to hardware, according to Business Insider, citing numerous sources.

Donatelli was the EVP in charge of HP's enterprise systems business when Meg Whitman appeared as HP head honcho to replace the ousted Hurd.

Hurd went to Oracle, where he is now a co-CEO, sharing the CEO spot with Safra Catz. Oracle ex-CEO Larry Ellison is now CTO and CYO (Chief Yacht Officer).

At HP, Donatelli was pushed aside by Whitman in 2013, when the enterprise systems business didn't perform as she thought it should.

He was given a position looking at interesting start-ups that HP could acquire from VCs.

He joined HP in 2009, coming from EMC to run HP's storage business. It was thought he would leave after getting the VP car parks start-up acquisition post, but he stuck it out until now – if the Business Insider report is true.

Oracle has already said no comment to a question about Donatelli's hiring. We're asking HP and Oracle about it, and will update the story when we know more. ®
