Samsung gets virtual with tiny S5 upgrade and goggle grab

VR headset rumoured to come down chimney with Santa

A small upgrade to the Samsung Galaxy S5 has popped up on Samsung's dutch web site? The phone is identical in all regards to the S5, save in the fact that it uses a Qualcomm CPU running at 2.5 Ghz. The original S5 runs at 2.7Ghz.

Dutch Samsung bloggers spotted the change and word on the street is that the new model uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 805, a newer and faster model than the 801 that shipped with the original S5 even if its clock speed is 2.5GHz rather than the 2.7GHz model used at launch.

Other than the addition of LTE Advanced, the product is otherwise unchanged.

Meanwhile, rumours are emerging from Korean that Samsung's foray into virtual reality will land before Christmas. Yonhap reports the device should land around the world this year. That and other reports mention that early versions of the device tether to Galaxy Tabs over a USB cable and hint the cord may be cut for the final release. ®
