Shut up, Siri, I'm watching telly! iOS 7.1 code reveals new role for Apple's PA
SDK uncloaks mysterious new device family
It looks like Apple might send its personal assistant Siri to perch upon the next generation of its Apple TV set-top boxes.
Support for Siri on another device – purportedly the Apple TV set-top box – is included in an entry in the iOS 7.1 software development kit, according to French iOS developer Pierre Blazquez.
After making the discovery, he excitedly tweeted:
I’ve just found a new device family reference in Siri’s resources in iOS 7.1… New #AppleTV or #iWatch ? pic.twitter.com/Ak1PVuBmqc

The Apple developer guide indicates UIDeviceFamily
key values numbers one and two as denoting the iPhone/iPod and iPad ranges respectively.
9to5Mac has since pointed out that the number three has been used as an identifier for the set top box product range in other Apple TV apps.
Of course the current Apple TV offering has no microphone input, which suggests that you'll have to wait for the next generation before shouting at your telly actually has an effect. ®
