New Zealand considers yourname.nz domains

New Zealand's Domain Name Commission has commenced a consultation process to discuss the possible introduction of a yourname.nz domain name registration service.

The Commission says it's doing so because Kiwi punters want it: research it conducted in 2011 found 60% of respondents in favour. Global fervour for new top level domains has apparently rubbed off on New Zealanders, who like the idea of a cut-price local personalisation alternative.

The proposal's three key items for discussion include a sunrise clause that would restrict access to new domains to those who hold existing .nz registrations. Domain registration and dispute resolution rules are also up for discussion. ®
