Alcatel-Lucent tinkers with Telstra's enterprise network

Telstra is revamping the network smarts of its enterprise IP offerings in an Asia Pacific-first roll out of the Alcatel –Lucent supplied Application Assured Networking (AAN) service.

The AAN solution aims to amplify the performance of cloud based services and virtual private networks (VPNs) for enterprise customers.

Telstra worked closely with Alcatel-Lucent to Telstra to design and launch the AAN service to the Australian market and it is expected that Telstra will further enhance AAN with additional features such as real time control over applications and allocation of network resources with QoS.

The network deployment comes after a competitive pitch in which sources close to the process reveal was running head to head with Juniper who lost the bid to provide overall AAN platform. Juniper does however maintain a role in setting policy control while vendor Infovista will provide customer reporting.

The AAN solution eliminates the need for enterprises to buy additional performance monitoring hardware, which can be costly to purchase and manage and offers those capabilities from service providers.

The service also gives enterprises a greater visibility and more control over the increasing number of financial, relationship management, IP telephony, video conferencing and other business applications travelling through their network. ®
