Amazon drops planned 8.9in Kindle Fire for 10.1in job

Oi vapour

Amazon, it has been claimed, will be dropping a version of the Kindle Fire it might, maybe, put into production in favour of a different model that it could, possibly make in the future.

Yes, the mooted 8.9in Fire, recently the subject of rumour, is to be replaced by a no less vaporous 10.1in Fire as Amazon, it's said some bloke in Taiwain, adjusts its sights to focus on Apple rather than Samsung, Digitimes reports.

The theory goes that Amazon was considering a larger, but not iPad-large, Fire to take the fight to the Samsung Galaxy Tab. But with Apple still dominant and its market share declining less than expected, Amazon wants to take on the iPad instead.

So the speculated 8.9in Fire is out, replaced by a speculated 10.1in model.

Of course, to what extent will the speculated 7.85in 'iPad Mini' will mess up this plan? And as for Google's mooted Kindle Fire competitor, will that now become an iPad rivalling Fire rival? We can but speculate... ®
