Java-centric video house moves to Azure

IPTV aspirant farewells FOSS

Australian cloud based online video platform Movideo has hooked up with Microsoft in a four year strategic technology agreement that will see the IPTV aspirant deploy its wares globally.

Movideo, which is part of the ASX listed content company, the MCM Entertainment Group, will migrate its integrated online video platform to Windows Azure with a major Java transition.

During the overhaul Movideo is working closely with the Microsoft China Cloud Innovation Center, Microsoft Hong Kong office and the Microsoft Redmond USA product engineering teams. The migration is expected to be completed in May.

"We come from an open source background and typically used a Java stack inside our environments," said Movideo's Chief Techology Officer Cameron Moore. "It is a big transition moving onto the Microsoft stack."

"By migrating to Windows Azure, we can now take advantage of the added services that Windows Azure provides beyond just being infrastructure and accelerating our development road map of product features for our media customers with assurances that the scalability, redundancy and robustness of the back-end infrastructure are taken care of.”

The global alliance includes a long-term pricing agreement, technical support, sales and marketing backing for Movideo.

The online video platform was created in-house in 2004 from digital media business, MCM Entertainment and in 2008 established Movideo as a Software as a Service (SaaS) and consulting business within the group.

Movideo is targeting the global online video market particularly Asia Pacific and touts itself as the only end-to-end SaaS online video platform business based in the APAC region.
