Toshiba outs monster tablet 'concept'

Windows 8 13.3in fondleslab, anyone?

Toshiba is tempting tablet fans with a couple of new concept models: a 7.7in design and a rather more outré 13.3in version.

The former has an OLED panel and runs Android 4 Ice Cream Sandwich. Ports include Micro SD and micro USB. There are front and back webcams.

Toshiba wouldn't talk specs, but you're talking standard tablet stuff, we'd say.

The 13.3in monster exists simply as a casing design prototype, with the usual ports and cameras. It's hard to imagine this boy, if it's ever released, not coming with Android or - dare we speculate - Windows 8.

We'd suggest the latter, since Toshiba staffers focused on the machine's business uses - a mobile presentation platform, for instance.

And with a 13.3in screen, you're looking at a resolution of at least 1366 x 768, possibly even higher.

They wouldn't be drawn on availability, refusing even to discuss whether either gadget will be coming to market at all. But, they said, "Toshiba will be releasing a range of tablets in 2012", so we'd be surprised if the 7.7in fondleslab doesn't make an appearance this year. ®
